Currie is said to have befriended Monica Lewinsky when Lewinsky worked in the White House and to have authorized her more than 30 visits to the building after she went to work at the Pentagon in 1996.

Currie had an as yet unclear role in the giving of gifts by Clinton to Lewinsky and in subsequent efforts to reclaim some of them. More importantly, she was involved in attempts to find a new job for Lewinsky late last year, days after lawyers for Paula Jones said they wanted to ask Lewinsky whether she had a sexual relationship with Clinton.
